We understand that many questions can arise when having to consider the need for hospice and palliative care for a loved one. We have put together a list of commonly asked questions and answers. If you have a question that is not listed below please contact our corporate office and we’ll be happy to assist you.

What is a hospice care program?

Hospice Care Program is ordered by a physician when a patient has a terminal diagnosis or has a life expectancy of 6 months or less to live.

What determines eligibility for hospice care?

Patient has a terminal diagnosis and a prognosis of approximately 6 months or less if the disease follows its natural course.

How do I get my family member evaluated for hospice care services?

Have your primary care physician send us a referral to determine eligibility.

Is hospice care covered by insurance?

Hospice and Palliative Care Program Benefits are Provided/Covered by Medicare/Medicaid, VA Benefits, Private Insurance(some Co-Pay may apply).
Medications related to patient’s illness and or diagnosis pertaining to Hospice/Palliative Care.
Medical Supplies and Equipment are also Provided and Covered..

What type of care does Dharma Hospice and Palliative Care provide?

We provide four levels of care for a patient and their family. The following care and support is provided:

  • Home Hospice – Our staff comes to the home to provide care and support for patient and family.
  • Continuous Care – Provided at home when patient is experiencing uncontrolled symptoms.
  • In-patient Care – Short stay in an in-patient care unit to control symptoms.
  • Respite Care – Arranged when caregiver needs relief from care giving, fatigue, or just needs a break.
What is the difference between hospice care and palliative care?

Palliative care can be provided at any stage of a patient’s disease, while hospice care is only provided when a patient has 6 months or less life prognosis.

What if my loved one has pain in the middle of the night?

Our nurses and supportive staff provide on-call emergency service 24/7.
